What we offer

The purpose of Whakatipuria is for young parents to overcome barriers so that they can complete their education. 

The support we offer is wide ranging when you are part of the Whakatipuria whanau:

• We have specialist teachers who can help you to achieve NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 we also can support you into your tertiary education. A number of students choose to stay with us to continue their studies beyond NCEA Level 3 and gain certificates and degrees in various subjects on offer at Open Polytechnic.

• Your tamariki can attend the Early Childhood Education Centre located in the building next door. The cost for this is covered through WINZ.

• We provide transport to and from the unit for you and your tamariki (if required) in vans driven by our lovely teacher aides. (Transport includes both Ashhurst and Feilding)

• We have access to social worker support.

• We can help connect you with people to help sort any benefits you may be entitled to.

• We focus on physical health and have the option of attending the gym once a week.

• We have access to a health nurse.

• We have access to parenting courses and Plunket.

• We can support you into getting your Driver’s Licence by giving you access to driving lessons and supporting your Learner’s and Restricted Licence.

• We have many courses available in the unit (e.g) Barrista, Health and Safety, First Aid etc.
